In the journey of spiritual growth, timing can be a crucial factor. Many spiritual traditions emphasize the importance of practicing during specific hours believed to be highly auspicious. Among these, the early morning hours from 3 AM to 6 AM hold a special place as a divine window for meditation, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

I remember waking up before 4am to catch a taxi to the beat the sunrise. I want to walk the Boudhanath Stupa in Nepal. It's this beautiful structure with a whitewashed dome with a gilded tower painted with the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha. It's highly symbolic construction serves as a three-dimensional reminder of the Buddha’s path towards enlightenment. The plinth represents earth, the kumbha (dome) is water, the harmika (square tower) is fire, the spire is air and the umbrella at the top is the void or ether beyond space. The 13 levels of the spire represent the stages that a human being must pass through to achieve nirvana.

I bundled up, got in a taxi and passed children dressed in school uniformed suits walking their way to school. I remember I felt... weird out of place... Like, who am I to walk this sacred path around the Boudhanath. Who am among the others... monks and villagers paying penance... some with these wooden things on their hands that looked like shoes, clapping them together... getting on their knees... stretching out on the ground... inching their way towards their hands only to repeat this as they moved around the structure. I spent the next few hours walking around it; it's about 300 - 400 meters and stopped after circling it 27 or 29 times... about 6 miles. I lost track around 25, I felt overwhelmed and fully in the moment. I realized... I was in Nepal... a bucket list place of mine... doing something I believed I would one day do... against all odds.
*The following is not my video. This person did a beautiful job capturing the experience I was too shy at the time to capture. I'll share more in the future and insert the videos from my walk through Nepal.
So, what's the point... I don't know... waking up at 3am, listening to this internal clock that was pushing me against the flow... against society's tide... led me to path that I look back on knowing I'm forever changed because of it. I listened to the whispers of the auspicious hours... and now were here... Many bucket lists later... listening... waking up... embracing things filled with 'fear' of the unknown... and feel good about it.
Why is the 3 AM to 6 AM Window Considered Sacred?
This period, often referred to as the "Brahma Muhurta" in Indian tradition, is considered one of the most spiritually potent times of the day. The term "Brahma Muhurta" translates to the "Moment of Brahma" or the "Creator's Hour," signifying a time when the universe is in a state of quietude and divine harmony.
During these hours:
The mind is naturally calm and receptive.
External distractions are minimal.
The environment is peaceful, with a serene atmosphere conducive to introspection.
This alignment of natural and cosmic energies makes it an ideal time for spiritual practices aimed at self-realization, inner peace, and connection with the divine.

My Final Thoughts

You may be like me... I found myself waking up consistantly around 3am in the beginning of my practice. I was upset and mad feeling I was cutting my sleep short and now my day would be off. But there had to be a reason. Our bodies intuitively know things before we understand the why. Society today has been blocking their knowledge by trying to rationalize things that appear to lead us against the flow. When the flow has been leading us down paths meant not for us. Sometimes, we have to step off the path we're being lead... listen and find our own way.
The hours from 3 AM to 6 AM are more than just a time slot; they are a sacred gateway to connect with divine energies and accelerate your spiritual journey. Embracing this time with devotion and discipline can lead to profound inner transformation and harmony with the universe.
