Regulate to Recognize: Reading the Hidden Patterns in Your Healing Journey

Healing is hidden in our patterns.
Healing is hidden in our patterns.

Healing doesn’t only happen in the big breakthroughs. It’s not just in the deep sessions, the ceremonies, or the moments where everything finally makes sense.

Most of your healing is happening in the ordinary. In the conversations you almost overlook. In the reactions you wish you didn’t have.In the patterns that quietly repeat themselves in your day-to-day life.

The question is not whether your life is giving you guidance. It’s whether you know how to read it.

Your Life Is Speaking—Constantly

Everyday moments are not random.

The same themes show up in different forms:

  • similar conflicts with different people

  • repeated emotional triggers

  • situations that feel oddly familiar

  • choices that keep circling back around

I was repeating patterns for decades; since high school until I took a step back to see the signs
I was repeating patterns for decades; since high school until I took a step back to see the signs

This isn’t coincidence; it’s patterning. And patterning is where your healing is asking for attention. Life doesn’t just present experiences. It reflects what is still unresolved, unseen, or ready to shift.

When I was younger, I had a type... A type of person that I was drawn to... attracted to. And then I would wonder why the same thing kept happening over and over again in my life.

I felt I had changed. I was learning how to adjust how I show up, how I handled situations, worked on healing my 'inner child' and trauma held in my body... But I was putting myself back into similar settings because it felt like home; even if home created the issues I was repeating. It was like moving to another country only to look for McDonalds; bypassing healthier options. It's familiar... and felt like home.

The Bigger Picture Is Hidden in the Small Moments

We tend to wait for clarity to arrive in obvious ways. But real insight often comes through subtle repetition.

That moment where:

  • you felt dismissed in a conversation

  • you overextended yourself and felt drained

  • you hesitated to speak your truth

  • you felt a surge of emotion that didn’t match the situation

I use to think I deserved things to unfold this way; maybe I did something in my past life... OR worse, I believe I was unworthy of good things. You've heard the sayings, "Bad things happen to bad people," or "God doesn't like ugly," and what's happening to you is punishment.... but it's not.

It's mind-chatter handed down from generations before you... hidden in the traumas of others.

But those moments are not small things. They are entry points. If I would have looked around me... I don't recall someone saying... Step back... look at the whole picture. You're not a victim. You're not being punished. You need to look at the patterns you're creating. What would a version I could only dream of do differently?

Each one is showing you:

  • where your boundaries need strengthening

  • where your nervous system is still holding past experiences

  • where your identity is ready to evolve

  • where your truth is asking to be expressed

When you begin to look at your life this way, nothing feels wasted. Everything becomes information.
Mind mapping is a helpful tool I teach... beginning with a central point and connecting feelings, ideas, experiences to each other. It allows your creative brain to connect and see things not from a logical perspective.

Your Nervous System Holds the Map

Your reactions are not random... they are responses shaped by your nervous system.

When something feels “bigger than it should,” that’s often your body remembering something unresolved.

You might notice:

  • shutting down in moments of conflict - I did this a lot. I wasn't running or ignoring what was happening. I didn't know how to express what I was feeling clearly with emotional intelligence.

  • over-explaining to feel understood - Once in fourth grade, my English teacher said to me, "You have an excuse for everything..." Standing there in my 9 year old little girl body, I grew up in a home that where explaining why you did something was on repeat wether being disciplined or not. One of our house sayings, "It must not be important if you don't remember." and as a neurodivergent person... I can track a thought back to the seed; a gift?... or a crazy mindless loop.

  • people-pleasing to avoid discomfort - In my culture, it was conditioned early on to be a form of respect. I think this is why it's hard to distinguish what is people pleasing until you're old enough to hear the term.

  • pulling away when connection deepens - a safety response

Finding your way, is easier when the path is clearer. But not all paths are clear. Using visualization can help with this no matter where you're at. Listen to guided visualization - The Road Not Taken on the Personal Shaman podcast.

These Responses are NOT Flaws

They are adaptations. But they also point to where your healing is ready to happen. I wanted to share my own personal stories. I tell my clients, "Trauma doesn't descriminate... It doesn't care of your financial wealth, your color, your gender... and so on." Trauma is more prevalent or higher in different demographics... but it can still find you.

When you slow down and track your body; not just the story. You begin to see patterns with more clarity and less judgment.

Shifting From Reaction to Observation

One of the most powerful changes you can make is this: Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” begin asking, “What is this showing me?” This creates space between you and the reaction.

In that space, you can begin to see:

  • the pattern instead of just the moment

  • the root instead of just the trigger

  • the opportunity instead of just the discomfort

Awareness is what turns repetition into transformation.

Reading the Moment in Real Time

As you move through your day, practice noticing: What am I feeling right now? Not the story; just the sensation. Have I felt this before? Where does this pattern show up? What is this moment asking for? A boundary? A pause? A different response? What would feel more aligned? Not what is needed, but what is true.

This is how everyday life becomes your teacher.

Healing Isn’t Separate From Living

You don’t have to step outside your life to heal. Your life is the process. The missed text. The uncomfortable silence. The moment you wanted to speak but didn’t. The moment you did; and it changed something. Each of these holds information. Each of these is shaping you.

Think with your heart. Think with your head. Use your experiences to see where you are clearly but lean into your body and pay attention to how it feels.

The Bigger Picture Reveals Itself Over Time

When you begin to read your life this way, something shifts.

You start to see:

  • why certain patterns existed

  • how your responses have evolved

  • where you are no longer the same person

Healing becomes less about fixing and more about witnessing, choosing, and integrating.

A New Way of Moving Through Your Journey

You don’t need more signs. You need a deeper relationship with the ones already present.

Your healing is not hidden from you. It’s woven into your everyday experiences. The more you slow down, regulate your body, and stay present—the more the bigger picture begins to reveal itself.

Nothing is random. Every moment is speaking. And your life is always guiding you toward who you are becoming.
